At just one week old, Milla was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder, affecting only 1 in 100,000 people. By six months old, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.

Since then, she’s spent countless days in hospital, undergoing surgeries and relying on world-class care.

But Milla’s story is one of resilience, creativity, and hope. At age four, eye-gaze technology gave her a voice. Today, she uses it to chat with friends, create incredible art, and dreams of becoming a graphic designer.

On Australia Day, 11-year-old Remy was rushed to hospital with severe facial swelling, pain and vomiting.

Doctors discovered a rare and life-threatening complication of sinusitis – an abscess in his brain.

As his condition deteriorated, Remy faced two major brain surgeries. He was terrified, asking his mum, “Am I going to die?”.

But Remy wasn’t alone. Child Life Therapists were by his side through it all – distracting him from fear, helping him cope with painful procedures, and reminding him he was still just a kid.

On a surf trip, 14-year-old Artaban fell 15 metres onto rocks, suffering catastrophic injuries. With a ruptured spleen, punctured lung, multiple spinal fractures and internal bleeding, his chances of survival were less than 5%.

He was rushed under a “green corridor” to Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick, where a team of specialists performed six life-saving surgeries in one night, and more in the weeks that followed. His parents didn’t know if they’d see him again.

But Artaban fought. With world-class care and the support of dedicated clinical teams, he slowly came back – step by step, relearning how to talk, walk, and rebuild his strength.

When Ashton was born, his parents’ dream of a joyful homecoming quickly turned into a nightmare. Covered in bruises, he was rushed to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, where doctors discovered Congenital Acute Myeloid Leukaemia – a rare blood cancer affecting just one in five million babies.

At only five days old, Ashton began months of intensive chemotherapy. His tiny body endured more than most adults ever would. He entered remission, but heartbreak struck again when he relapsed. Over seven months, Ashton bravely faced further treatment, including a life-saving bone marrow transplant.

After more than 300 days in hospital, Ashton was declared cancer-free.
